How TabSafe works for you – the user
 |
Let’s say you are a new TabSafe user. You live in
an apartment at an assisted living community. And currently, your doctor
is prescribing seven medications for you.
Your TabSafe unit sits next to your bed, plugged
into an electrical outlet for power and a phone jack for communication
with your family members and your pharmacist. Since you are taking seven
medications, only seven of the nine cartridges in your TabSafe unit are
utilized.
8:00 a.m. The audio and visual reminders on your
TabSafe unit go off. When you press the release button three pills are
released and slide down into a special drawer. The TabSafe unit unlocks
the drawer and you open it to retrieve and take your medicine.
12:00 p.m. The audio and visual reminders go off,
but this time you don’t hear or see them because you’re taking a walk. A
phone call is then made to you or up to two others who may
assist you. In this case, the call just goes to the pager
you carry with you to remind you to take your medicine.
You return to your room minutes later, but stop to
talk to a neighbor, momentarily forgetting about the medicine. The TabSafe
unit makes another reminder call to your pager. You go inside,
press the release button, and retrieve and take your medicine
just as you did before.

Let’s assume that for the rest of this scenario,
the TabSafe user is one who is less independent.
5:00 p.m. The TabSafe reminders go off but the pills
are not retrieved. A second reminder goes off at 5:15, and again the pills
are not retrieved. A third call goes out to an on-staff caregiver at 5:30.
They arrive at your room and ask if you need assistance. The caregiver presses
the release button, and with the staff key, opens the locked cabinet
to retrieve and assist you with your medicine.
9:00 p.m. In this case, there is no audio and visual
reminder. Instead, A call is made directly to an on-staff caregiver, who
arrives at 9:02, presses the release button, unlocks the drawer and helps
administer the medicine.
As you can see, there are a wide range of options for
the way the TabSafe reminder and call system is set up. And it can be
changed at any time, to best address the lifestyle and level of dependency
of the user.
Every single activity is accurately captured and stored
on a Medical Administration Record (MAR) and downloaded to a server, for
family, caregiver and physician, to help determine the level of care the
patient needs.
It’s that simple. So simple, you might wonder, why didn’t
someone think of it sooner? Well, the important thing is that TabSafe is here.
It’s tested. It works. It’s ready.
